Tea Tuesday: Chrysanthemum Tea Drink

I'm not really a coffee person. I prefer tea, and I know a lot of fellow writers love tea, too. But have you ever wanted to break out of the Early Grey or English Breakfast norm and try something new? Well, let me help you find some cool new teas! If you need a little hot and flavorful boost to help you reach your writing goal or you're just a lover of tea or you'd like to try some tea but aren't fond of the stereotypical types, these Tea Tuesday posts are for you.

This weeks tea is ...

Chrysanthemum Tea Drink

How I found it: I found this while grocery shopping at Kroger and I thought, "Huh, this could be really interesting to review. Yeah, it's in a can, but it's from Malaysia and it's tea and it's unusual flower tea, soo ..." *buys it*

The Tea: If I had brewed this tea myself, I would have cut down on the sugar a bit. It is quite sweet. The included cane sugar has a distinct taste that distracts from the chrysanthemum flavor. The chrysanthemum flavor reminds me of a daisy flower bouquet. I could imagine this would taste better by itself and without so much sugar. I tried watering it down, but that didn't help so much. Well, I had to try this once right?

Serving Recommendations: The tea already contains cane sugar, but I do recommend chilling it before drinking.

How much is it and where can you get it? I bought this tea for .99 at Kroger in their international food section. The Yeo's site tells you a bit about the tea, but not how to buy it. Go figure. This tea can also probably be found at other Asian markets like Hmart or other local ones.

So how good is it? I didn't care for it very much. If I find this tea loose, I may try it though. Only two stars for this one.

The Party King

How I found it: I've been eyeballing this tea for a while and since my friend happened to get this blend for Christmas, I decided to try it while she was visiting at my house. Because I must try a blend inspired by Thranduil of course.

This tea comes from the same site I bought the Avengers set,Sherlock set, Tolkien set, Avatar: the Last Airbender set,  Doctor Who set, Attack on Titan set, RWBY set, Divergent set, and Firefly set from!

The Tea: This tea certainly has an unusual taste, which I mostly credit to the Hojicha. Hojicha is a roasted tea, so it has more of earthy taste as opposed to a sweet taste. This nutty, grassy, leafy taste reminded me of the dark woods of Mirkwood. It had an air of mystery about it. The vanilla green gave a sweet taste to it and the vanilla reminded me more of Thranduil's fabulousness. ;) Lastly the apricot green added a slight tang to the tea alluding to the unusual cuisine of Mirkwood. This is definitely a very mysterious and stern tea, not one for the faint of heart.

Thranduil is the most fabulous elf there ever was.

Serving Recommendations: I steeped this tea at 205 for four minutes and added sugar.

How much is it and where can you get it? You can find this tea at the Adagio website. My friend got this tea in a sample set which was about $22 including shipping and you get a goodly amount of tea since you only need about a teaspoon per cup. Some of these teas you can buy individually for about $10 a pouch or $4 for a sample tin.

So how good is it? This was a decent tea, that fit Thranduil, but wasn't my favorite of teas. Maybe it was getting used to the Hojicha. Three stars!

Cinna

How I found it: I'm back with another fandom set from Adagio Teas. Since the busy Holiday season is upon us, I bought these teas in advance. And the fact that the final Hunger Games film is releasing (released) may have something to do with it. I'm a huge Hunger Games fan and I'm so so so pumped for the film! I'm going to be cosplaying as Katniss when I see it (saw it depending on when these posts go up). I'm so happy for the Mockingjay Part 2 release but sad because the series will be finally over. :( I've been wanting to get a Hunger Games set for a while and when Adagio Teas had it for a weekend special I had to snatch it up. Let's see how good it is!

The Tea: Sweet Cinna. This tea makes me so reminiscent of him. He's one of my favorite characters in the Hunger Games and he just breaks my heart. This tea is a perfect tribute to our beloved Capitol designer. This tea is perfect mix of nut and chocolate flavors from the mocha nut mate and hazelnut teas which remind me a bit of Ferrero Rocher candies. And of course this tea wouldn't be complete without cinnamon! These tea has a strong helping of cinnamon tea that makes a spicy twist at the end of every sip.

This blend is probably the most unique of the Hunger Games sets and is a good one to end with. The flavor reminds me of Cinna's warm and mello nature. He's unique among the other citizens of the capitol. Instead of being flamboyant with bold colors he chooses simple black with gold eyeliner. I believe he'd love drinking this tea while working on another groundbreaking design.

Serving Recommendations: I steeped this tea at 180 for three minutes and added sugar, cream, and extra cinnamon!

So how good is it? Very delightful tea, very Cinna. Four stars!

Mulled Pomegranate Cider

How I found it: In honor of Christmas coming soon, I purchased a Christmas-y blend. After my previous purchase at Teavana in my mall, I got a coupon, so soon I returned to use it on one special tea for this Tea Tuesday. After smelling and sampling several teas, I found this gem.

The Tea: This. Tea. Is. Really good. The tea smells fantastic as soon as you open the package and it brews a rich dark pink. It has such a unique flavor and an amazing combination of fruit and spices. It almost doesn't even taste like you're drinking tea, but a spiced juice cocktail. 

This tea contains cinnamon, apple pieces, hibiscus flowers, carob pieces, ginger, grapes, elderberries, pomegranate seeds, black pepper, black currants, raspberries, cardamom, cloves, red currants, and blueberries. It creates a symphony of Christmas in your mouth. It has a strong tart flavor primarily from the pomegranate and currants and the sweetness of raspberries and apples. 

By the time of writing his review I've drank three cups and two teapots worth of this tea. It is a perfect Christmas treat. If you get any Teavana or store wide giftcards for Christmas, I'd definitely invest into this tea. It's pricey, but totally worth your money.

Serving Recommendations: I steeped this tea for five minutes at 212 and just added a bit of sugar to stave off the tartness. 

How much is it and where can you get it? You can buy this tea at a Teavana store or online. It's 9.98 USD per 2 oz. which makes 15-20 cups of tea. It's on the pricier side of teas, but like I said, it's worth it. 

So how good is it? This is a high-quality, flavorful tea that helps one get into the Christmas spirit! Five stars!

The Tea: Effie's tea certainly fits her. The tea itself smells very strong, but the flavor is much milder and more fruit. This reminds me how Effie Trinket can come off as a shallow person and that's how she starts in the Hunger Games series, but gradually she begins to truly care about her tributes and understands the barbaric nature of the games. When she cried when Katniss was drawn, that was such a pivotal moment for her character. 

The tea's flavor reminds me of a chocolate strawberry fudge cake with almond topping from the combination of Valentines, rooibos almond, and cream teas, something that a citizen of the Capitol would eat. It's very sweet with the slight bitterness of dark chocolate. If I was making the tea I would have perhaps put in some candy starts like in the Birthday blend to make the tea more colorful like Effie. The tea reminds me a bit of the Kaylee (Firefly) blend, but it has its differences.

The strawberry and cream flavors reminds me of her Effie's bubbly self and the dark chocolate seems like a reminder that Effie is more deep than she seems. This tea is very fitting for Effie and I could certainly see her drinking this while winding down.

It's amazing how she changes from our first impression of her.

The Tea: This is a decaf tea full of fruity goodness perfect for our darling Rue. *mockingjay whistle, three finger salute* It's tart from the sour apple tea reminds me of how Rue worked in the orchards. It has a hint of honey which reminds me of the trackerjackers Rue warns Katniss about showing her cleverness. The snowbud tea reminds me of her kind and cute side. 

This tea brings a lot of nostalgia because I was crying at Rue's death both while reading the book and while in the theater. It's such a touching and heartbreaking scene. Perhaps Rue drank a tea like this with her parents before she left home to go to the Games.  

She's so cute.

Serving Recommendations: I steeped this tea for 5 minutes at 212 and added sugar.

How much is it and where can you get it? You can find this tea at the Adagio website. I bought this tea in a sample set which was about $22 including shipping and you get a goodly amount of tea since you only need about a teaspoon per cup. Some of these teas you can buy individually for about $10 a pouch or $4 for a sample tin.

So how good is it? The tea is a bit tart for me so it isn't my favorite, but it's not a bad tea and it suits Rue. Three stars!

The Tea: From first smell, I knew this would be perfect for Gale. This tea has a strong, earthy, and manly smell from the pu erh dante tea, a sweet taste from the forest berries, and mineral flavor from the gunpowder. It's definitely a very masculine tea like Gale and it makes me think of the woods. Basically these tea tastes like a forest. The gunpowder makes me think of his fighting spirit and his yearning for justice for the districts. 

The tea reminds me a bit of the Toph tea, but there's a significant difference with the gunpowder tea instead of the white monkey. I think Gale would enjoy drinking this tea while sitting with Katniss, perhaps in a thermos while they're hunting in the woods on colder days.

I don't know about you, but I thought this part was so cute. XD

Serving Recommendations: I steeped this tea at 200 for 2 minutes and added just sugar.
