Questions for Cohen (Silhouette)!

Since Beautiful People has ended for the time being I thought I'd try reviving character interviews on the blog so I can talk about my books a little bit. This is Cohen Makovsky and he's the main character of my Adult Science-Fiction novel Silhouette. He had his own Beautiful People, but I need to get to know him even more. XD Let me tell you a bit about him. 

Cohen is a twenty-five-year-old convict from the planet Copec, but he's currently imprisoned on the volcanic planet of Valdura and furthermore, he's trapped inside a clay replica of himself as further punishment. He longs for the day the appraisers come and he has a chance to serve the rest of his sentence on a different brighter planet. 

Cohen was raised on an apiary in Copec with his mother and sister. He had a very poor upbringing and always dreamed of bringing a better life for his family. After receiving a scholarship, he went to university and gained a degree in mathematics and worked as an accountment before he got wrapped up in illegal financial dealings.

Besides his ambitions, he loves astronomy and one of the things he misses the most on Valdura is the inability to see the stars because of the planet's clouded toxic atmosphere. His best friend Osment helps him keep hope as each day grows closer to when he can leave Valdura and make his family proud of him again.

Questions for Mordraug (Starbloods)!

It's time for a call for questions! This is Mordraug. He is one of my antagonist from my high fantasy series Starbloods. I'm rewriting Starbloods for NaNoWriMo this year, so I want to flesh out Mordraug some more through a character interview! Let me tell you a little bit about him!

Mordraug is a five hundred and forty-two year old werewolf. Before he became immortal, he was a bandit pillaging the lands. When he was lost in a snow storm with his last twelve men, they encountered the ancient wolf god Mwog, who granted them the power to transform into wolves and immortality. They became the first werewolves. Now they believe it's his sacred duty to turn all humans into werewolves like him. 

Mordraug travels with his caravan of werewolves biting humans and expanding his pack. He is ruthless and destroys cities and villages to achieve his goals. His only true friend is the man who raised him who is also a werewolf named Ioto. Everyone else he only cares to exploit and use for his own gain.

Not long after he became a werewolf, he lost one of his men to one of the werewolves' few weakness, a direct stab in the heart. Because of this he knew he had to protect his heart to achieve full immortality. That is when he met the sorceress Vanmoriel who made a plate out of the metal of a comet to weld to his chest to permanently protect his heart. Since then he has been in love with her to an obsessive degree and served her every wish.

Questions for Vanmoriel (Starbloods)!

It's time for a call for questions! This is High Priestess Vanmoriel. She is my main villainess from Starbloods, and basically the most evil character I've ever created, so I'm a little nervous about interviewing her. I'm rewriting Starbloods for NaNoWriMo this year, so I want to flesh out Vanmoriel some more through a character interview! Not sure how honest she's going to be, but we shall see. Let me tell you a little bit about her!

Vanmoriel is a several thousand year old Star. She is a sorceress and a high priestess of a sacred order devoted to worshiping ancient pagan gods. Once she had blonde hair and blue eyes as characteristic of a star, but her corrupted abilities colored her hair red and her eyes green. Long ago she betrayed her race in devotion to her gods and has been loyal to them ever since. 

Because she is so ancient, she has become numb to most emotion. She rarely experiences joy, anger, sadness, or happiness. She gets sadistic pleasure from others secretly and primarily so she can feel some sort of emotion at all. She uses her feminine wiles to get anything she wants and if that doesn't work she kills until she does.

By sacrificing other races and stealing their abilities, she has gained power beyond a normal star's such as casting hexes from fairies and manipulating sigils from giants. She can crush the heart of anyone standing within ten feet with her with just a motion of her hand.  She rules the country of Ibreain, a realm of stars with corrupted abilities like hers, a realm she believes is free from the constraints of the old ways. She believes this way of life should be spread throughout the continent of Grathain and seeks to corrupt her sister country of pure stars to become just like hers.

Six-Question Character Challenge: The Villains of Starbloods

I've talked about my main characters for Starbloods a lot on the blog, but I haven't touched very much on the villains, so I'm taking the opportunity to do that. I swiped this tag from Sara Letourneau just for this purpose. 

Here's a brief explanation from Briana deSilva @ The Story Part, the creator of the tag:

The first prompt asks for a “contradiction.” In case you start wondering what this means, it’s basically this: every important character in your story should have something contradictory or seemingly inconsistent about their personality. We see this with people in real life, and it’s the mark of a rounded, three-dimensional character.

Note that this is probably the hardest of the prompts, so don’t worry if it takes some deep thinking. But please consider: if you can’t find any contradiction at all in your character’s personality, it’s probably a sign you need to develop him/her a little more. So, it’s a good exercise to do, no matter what.

The second prompt asks for a Meyers-Briggs personality type. If you’re unsure what type your character is, you can take the test on their behalf here.

Also, the fourth prompt asks how your character would slay a dragon. This is purely hypothetical; there are no dragons in my book, for example, so the prompt can be applied to any genre you want!

Questions for Silanoc (Starbloods!)

It's time for a call for questions! This is Lord Silanoc. He is one of my side characters from my high fantasy series Starbloods, and Elasa's older brother. I'm rewriting Starbloods for NaNoWriMo this year, so I want to flesh out Silanoc some more through a character interview! Let me tell you a little bit about him!

Silanoc is the twenty-three-year-old lord of the Northern Province of Calsidor and also ambassador to Melorain, the bordering country. At nineteen, his father Lord Rhoga was assassinated on his younger sister twelfth birthday, leaving him as lord. Silanoc readily shouldered his father's position and he wishes to rule his province justly and kindly as his father did. 

Lord Silanoc is a quiet soul. He enjoys peace and reason, but he isn't afraid of a fight if the time comes. He is highly train in the way of the sword, dagger, bow, and spear. When he was sixteen, he spent a year in Melorain, among the natives, as a way to seal an alliance between Melorain and Calsidor. He learned their language, culture, and way of fighting. In return, the chief's son lived with him in Calsidor for a year and is his closest friend. Silanoc has a special bond with the Tsutegowa, the shapeshifting natives of the country because of this. 

Above all, Silanoc adores his precious younger sister Elasa. Silanoc's mother died giving birth to her and Elasa was born very week. Though he seeded bitterness at first against her for her mother dying, he grew to love and protect her. He spends as much time with her as he can, and values her above anyone else. He would stop at nothing to protect her--even if that mean sacrificing his position as a nobleman.

Questions for Rouyn!

It's that time of month again! I'm calling for questions for another character! This guy is the main male character from my high fantasy series Starbloods which I'm doing for NaNoWriMo. Yay! So I'm trying to familiarize myself with all of the characters. Let me tell you a little bit about this one. 

Rouyn is a seventeen year old Starblood who has not yet acquired his abilities. He is a prince of Calsidor, a land he was only born in, but he was raised in another country for he was threatened as an infant. For years he has communicated with his royal parents by letters, but he yearns for the day he can finally meet them when he's eighteen. 

He currently lives on an island off the coast of Ibreain, a Mediterranean-like environment with his guardians and their child. The guardians, like everyone else on the island except Rouyn, are of the winged race sylphs. Until his parents sent him a pegasus as tradition of young Calsidorian princes, he always had to rely on others to get about elevated island. Landora, his pegasus, is his best friend. They are bonded by blood and able to communicate telepathically. 

Though Rouyn has been treated like a prince his whole life, he has felt like an alien among his environment, and longs to be around people like him. On the other hand, he is afraid of being a prince of a people he doesn't remember meeting. He's read so much about them, but that isn't the same as knowing them in person. 

Questions for Elasa (Starbloods)!

Since I'm doing my high fantasy Starbloods for NaNoWriMo this year, I'm trying to better get to know some of the characters. Elasa was last month's Beautiful People, so I've decided to have her for this month's character interview. She is one of the three point of view characters of the book. Let me tell you a bit more about her!

Elasa is a sixteen year old noblewoman of the northern province of Calsidor, a country that's a mix of the U.K. and New Zealand. She is also born from a long line of Starbloods as most of the Calsidorian nobility. Thus she has inherited the abilities to read minds, move things with her mind, and heal. Since she was very young, she has also suffered from fibromyalgia.

Her many pets keep her company during her bad days, especially her wolpertinger, a wolf-deer-owl-rabbit creature, named Icha. Icha is also bonded to Elasa by blood which is called Iadlonu in Elasa's world. Normally, nobility would bond with a pegasus, but loyal Icha is just the fit for Elasa. Even if the poor beast is no match for Uncle Mavrom.

Questions for Harlowe (Starbloods)!

Because of the overwhelming response with Harlowe in last month's BP, I've decided to interview him this month! He is an antihero character from my high fantasy series that I'm debating on rewriting for NaNoWriMo. Decisions ... Let me tell you a bit about him!

Harlowe is a twenty-two-year-old shapeshifting sorcerer. In his world Stars are sentient beings and he is half Star, known in his world as Starbloods, but his other half is shapeshifter, leaving him without a trace of human blood. His born abilities are shapeshifting into a hound, telekinesis, telepathy, and the ability to control burning starlight. However, at the coercion of the evil full Star Vanmoriel, he can access forbidden abilities as well. One of these was the expansion of his shapeshifting abilities, allowing him to change into any form he can desire--at the the expense of his sanity. Daily, Harlowe struggles with the dozens of minds from his different forms with the real possibility of losing himself among them.

Questions for Caleb (Subsapien)!

It's time for this month's call for questions for this month's character interview! This time I'm asking for questions about one of my main characters from my science-fiction series Subsapien! He's done a Beautiful People and an interview a long time ago, but since I'm going to be editing his book soon, I want to bring him a little attention and get to know him a little bit more! I'll tell you about him first!

Caleb is a fourteen year old Biomechanical Subsapien and an amnesiac. After a tragic train accident that claimed his parents, he became paralyzed and Rota saved him using bionic parts. Because of head trauma he sustained from his injuries, he has no memory of his life before just a few weeks ago.

Since he has no where to go, he stays in the Rota laboratories to work for them. He rooms with Pro and Bryce. Though he has a crush with Pro, he's afraid to admit it to her in fear of messing up their friendship. On the other hand, he does not do not get along with Bryce. Caleb's shy, awkward, and analytical personality is the complete opposite to Bryce's reckless, smooth, and antisocial personality. Caleb sees Bryce as a rival as Bryce ends up growing up the teen social ranks without even trying while Caleb is struggling to fit in.

He may not remember much of his past, but he does know that loves to build things. Engineering and math come easy to him and calm him when he's stressed, especially after a rigorous day of training at the Rota labs. Despite lab employee's assurances that what Caleb is doing is for the greater good, he is suspicious that something nefarious is going and he's determined to find out what it is and find a way out.

Questions for Bryce (Subsapien)!

This month's call for questions for a character interview is here! And I'm bringing Bryce out of the woodwork. I know I've already done a ton of interviews with him and stuff (Beautiful People: Bryce, Beautiful People Sibling Edition: Bryce & Matt, Beautiful People Friendship Edition: Bryce & Emil) but that was six months ago and my bae needs some attention since I'll be editing his book this summer. And he's never done an interview where you all ask the questions. He's the main character from my science fiction series Subsapien. I'll tell you a little bit about him. 

Bryce is a seventeen year old cheetah subsapien grafting. His only family is his younger brother, Matt, whom he's fiercely protective over. The only life Bryce has ever known is that as an experiment in a lab called the L.G.R., but when he was seven a man told him of the wonders of the Outside and Bryce is determined to get his sickly brother to a place where he can be safe and happy--even if Bryce has to sacrifice his life for it.

At twelve years old, Bryce used his charm, passion, and superior fighting skills to become the Dominant or lead grafting over the hundreds in his lab. He has encouraged and guided his kind in their collective pursuit for freedom. His second in command has been Emil, his best friend. However, Bryce's endeavors have been slowed since he got into a severe accident during a large test. The lab had him transported to one in the capital of the United Americas Domes where Bryce was made into a biomech with metal appendages and eyes.

He has been forced to live with humans his age named Pro and Caleb. All his life, Bryce has despised humans for the cruelty and brutality they've shown him and his species. But it seems that now the only way to find his little brother and leave Rota for good is directly work for the Head of Rota, legal owner of Bryce and all the other graftings.

Questions for Pro (Subsapien)!

It's time for this month's character interview and I'm doing it with a character from Subsapien! I haven't done any characters from my sci-fi this year yet and that's a shame. This is Pro Jamerson, a side character from the series. Here's a bit about her!

Pro (Promise) Jamerson is fifteen years old, but don't call her "Promise" unless you want a fist to your face. She is a biomech aka she is half human and half mechanical and works for the government to support her poor urban family, whom she only gets to visit on weekends. After an accident with some of her brother's drug dealers, Rota made her whole again. She feels both indebted to them and grateful she can also help out her single mom and older brother.

She has worked undercover for the government for over a year as spy in a school to root out traitors to the country among the students. This work has conflicted with her morals, but what choice does she have? She's gone too far to go back. When not at school or playing basket ball, she trains for future missions at Rota. The moment she became a biomech was when she became permanent asset for them. 

Though her time is short, she savors the precious weekends she has with her family. After her former roommates disappeared, she gained two more in Bryce and Caleb. They are different than her others, and Bryce irritates her, but she enjoys not being alone in her dorm anymore. Despite what Rota tells her she wishes there was a way out of Rota, but she dares not try to leave, because that's what her roommates did and she's never seen or heard of them since.

Questions for Sonne (Silver Hood)!

Hey, everybody! It's time for this month's character interview! This month I'm featuring another character from Silver Hood (Red Hood's sequel), because I begin writing a planning for the book next month! Sonne is an important side character in the book--and she based another another fairy tale character. Let's see if you can guess who she is.

Sonne is a twenty-four year old Isamaour. Three old ladies raised her and taught her how to use the conversion magic native to her people. She uses her abilities to fight for the coalition opposed to the war between Isriki and Silfurlund.

She grew up in the war-torn southern lands of Isriki where she's seen many a battle between the werewolves of her land and the troops of Silfurlund. Due to this conflict she had moved frequently to avoid the fighting and hated the humans for causing her to uproot and become separated from friends. When she was a little girl, a human soldier showed her kindness and shortly later she watched him die by her own people's hands. She came to realize that her country's aggression has caused her lifelong toil, despite Nzelt's propaganda. She became outspoken about her unusual standpoint and endured much ridicule and scorn. As a teen, she learned of The North Wind, an entire group of people who share her views. She sought them out, became one of them, and has been fighting for the cause ever since.

Her constant companion is, Mjukur, a moth the size of a bird. He sends messages for her and assists her battle. A sling and a bolas are her weapons of choice, though her magic can also be used in combat. She's a bold and passionate woman, who only uses violence when absolutely necessary and avoids killing at all costs. Her ultimate goal is peace and she wishes  to achieve it with the least bloodshed possible. Enough blood has been spilled before her eyes.

Questions for Me!

Since it is the last month of the year (Still in shock about that), I've decided to shake things up a bit for this month's character interview which isn't going to be with a character. It's going to be with me! I've seen some bloggers do these Q & A things and I thought I'd give it a shot. So you can ask me any question you want whether it be about my life, my writing, drawing, tips about writing, whatever. 

If it's too much of an eyestrain to flick your eyes to the left to the short bio or if it's a danger to break your forefinger to click on the about me page, I'll go ahead and give another bio right here. 

I'm Victoria Grace Howell and I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area and I'm twenty-two year old Christian homeschool graduate. No, I don't have a Southern accent. I'm actively pursuing my dream to become a published author by submitting like crazy and writing even "like crazier." I've won Teen Writer of the Year at the Florida Christian Writers Conference and the Believer's Trust's (now SON Studios) Beyond the Steeple Award for my book Red Hood. I'm also the movie editor for the site Geeks Under Grace where I spit and polish reviews and articles about movies over my six or so writers. On the side, I do some freelance editing.

I've wanted to write since I was very little, but I actively started pursuing it at sixteen after I attended my first writers conference. It's a tough career path, but I feel like this is what God's calling me to do. I've written six books and around half a million words including rewrites and submitted to many agents and editors during my pursuit of my dream. I'm determined to get there.

Career aside, I love drawing my characters. It's one way I get to know them by making them come to life in my sketchbook. I play the piano and I've even tried to write music for my books. I'm also absolutely obsessed with tea. I'm a humongous geek. I've been to conventions, met celebrities, I've cosplayed, and I'm part of countless fandoms, including The Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, The Chronicles of Narnia, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Castle, Sherlock, and Doctor Who.

That's a bit about me. It's always awkward writing bios, but there you are!

Questions for Nox (Subsapien: Hybrid)!

year old boy and this is Nox. 

Happy NaNoWriMo, everybody! I'm doing NaNo this month and I still need to get to know this fella here on the left. He's one of my main POV characters and I still haven't quite tapped into his personality. Since character interviews are so very helpful for character development for me and you all ask so many awesome questions, I'm featuring Nox for this month's character interview! Let me tell you a little about him:

Nox (short for Noxious) is a  thirteen-year-old subsapien living in the Rocky Mountain L.G.R. facility. He has the DNA of Pit Viper which gives him extremely flexibility, heat vision (It's legit for Pit Vipers. Look it up.), and fangs with venom to name a few. He's been raised in a laboratory his entire life and has never been to the outside world. He's been curious about what lies there, but believes it's a goal that can never be achieved.

Throughout Nox's life, he has endured cruel experiments and lost every friend he's ever had. Now he's decided that having friends isn't worth the emotional pain, so he's cut himself off from most people and looks out for only himself. But when a norm transported to his lab as a prisoner told Nox to protect his sister no matter when he was being separated from her, Nox has felt indebted to protect this four-year-old girl named Izzy.

Nox is hard and a bit moody. He enjoys chocolate chip cookies and eggs when he can get them. He also wants to grow big and strong so he can finally stand up to his oppressive Dominant (ruler of the graftings of the L.G.R. under the scientists) and stop being pushed around and lose every test. That way he can have nicer clothes and food and live a better life--as good of a life as he can in his toxic environment. Though he hides it, Nox is very lonely and wishes he could open himself up again to friendship, but he's too scared of the consequences.

Questions for Sting!

I haven't done an interview with sting in forever, he hasn't had this type of interview before, a Subsapien character hasn't had an interview in two months, and with it being Halloween this month I thought it appropriate to have a villain interview. Now that my reasoning is out of the way ... This is Sting and he's a villain from my science-fiction series Subsapien. I'm going to write the third book of his series for NaNoWriMo this year! Too long has this book in in my head. So I need questions for him so I can make sure Sting's character is fleshed out. Here is a little about him:

Sting is a seventeen-year-old grafting with platypus, hedgehog, and honeybear DNA. Those may sound like docile animals, but with a hedgehog's spikes for hair, the thick skin of a honeybear, and the venom so painful not even morphine can dull it from a platypus, he makes a skilled assassin and bounty hunter. He has been raised by his masters, the scientists who created him, and he strives to be their loyal lapdog because it is his purpose as a subsapien.

 With being one of the first subsapiens to be grafted with three different types of DNA and also having manic-depressive bipolar, he has become unstable, though his handler Dr. Jeth Albers has found a way to keep him under control. Sting has a proverbial pacifier to calm him down which is a childhood book that plays calming music for him.

Because of his erratic behavior, Sting has few friends. Serra is one of the few other graftings that put up with him. Even though he can be abusive, she is always at his side. Able is assigned in Sting's group to hunt down escaped graftings, but Sting is jealous of him because the scientists show him more attention and Sting will often pick on him. All Sting really wants is to feel loved and needed by the closest people he can call parents.

Questions for Nzelt!

This month's interview is with the villain of Red Hood, Nzelt the Vulture. It is coming up in two weeks and he needs questions! He's been a stingy little bugger and hasn't told me much about himself and I need to know more for his the next books he features in. Let me tell you a little bit about him:

Nzelt the Vulture is of the race of Isamaour, a snow white-skinned people gifted with long life and the ability to convert matter. During his one hundred and fifty years of life, he has dwelled in the northern realm of Isriki, born as the only child to a wealthy Isamaour family. He strives to bring his backward country into the future and save his dying race by any means necessary.

From a young age, Nzelt has always been considered brilliant and charming. His parents gave him everything he wanted and nurtured him in his pursuits--if not spoiled him. He learned skill after skill, taking on new ones after being bored with the last eventually becoming a doctor, warlock, alchemist, inventor, and in time, ruler of all Isriki. As a ruling monarch, he modernized much of his country in just a few decades.

Unfortunately, using his magic so frequently and with such expertise colored his white skin black, the price of his race's power, and sealed his fate of dying because of his abilities. Since then he has declared war against the neighboring kingdom of Silfurlund to obtain a cure only native to that country. Now he uses his werewolf inventions to attack the realm to find the cure or make the Silfurlundians surrender it.

Something Nzelt would wear not how he looks.

Questions for Bethia!

This month's interview is with Captainess Bethia Harrower from Red Hood. It is coming up in two weeks and she needs questions! She is one of the secondary characters from my steampunk fantasy novel. I really don't know too much about her and she plays a large part in the second book of the series so this interview is crucial for me. Let me tell you a little about her:

Bethia Harrower is the Captainess of the Hounds in the North Red Hood Manor of Silfurlund, a position she's earned after years of work--and one she is close to losing due to her mental condition. 

All Red Hoods have the ability to mimic the powers of werewolves without having to shift form, but if this ability is strained, a Red Hood can be permanently locked in this state of hovering between animal and human. In Bethia's attempt to defeat an exceedingly large pack of werewolves, she locked herself in this state and now it is a matter of time until she descends into madness.

Both of Bethia's parents died when she was just a child  by werewolves. Mor's grandmother Margo took Bethia in as a child so she and Mor's mother, Moira, grew up as sisters. Overtime the two grew estranged when Bethia became overly zealous in her Red Hood duties. Now she is married to a banker from the village, Orrin Harrower. Despite Bethia's inability to have children, the two have a happy marriage, and he is supportive of her endeavors. 

By day she trains and cares for the manor's hounds and goes on missions to fight against werewolves, and by night she seeks to find a cure for the Locked state for her and any other Red Hood who has become Locked.
