Soundtrack Sundays: Hope (X-Men: Days of Future Past)

It's Soundtrack Sunday again! The day where I post awesome music to write to or just listen to for pleasure if you're a fellow soundtrack junkie. Since still no one has posted the Mockingjay Part 2 soundtrack on YouTube yet, I'm posting this instead. First things first lets get this out of the way: X-Men: Days of Future Past is supremely epic. It was like the Avengers of X-Men. The movie was just fantastic. Having both young and old Erik and Charles played by excellent actors, plus having Wolverine and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. It just can't be beat. Enough fangirling.

As the title implies this is a very hopeful piece. It has melancholy tones with the piano, but light shines through, all the while having this air of tension. You know feels are about to happen when listening to this piece. It's a beautiful blend of both acoustic and synthetic sounds. It reaches down inside of you and makes you reflect. This is powerful piece is perfect for a sci-fi or even a thriller genre story. You can listen to more epic music in my Soundtrack Sundays YouTube playlist.

Have you heard this piece before? What do you think of it? Have you seen X-Men: Days of Future Past?

If you liked this post, come back every Saturday for more writing advice, character interviews, book reviews and more! On Sundays I have Soundtrack Sundays where I post a new score piece, Tuesdays are Tea Tuesdays with tea reviews, Wednesdays I have Wonderful Word Wednesdays where I post a new vocabulary word, and Fridays are Fan Fridays where I post tags and other goodies. To help support my dream to be an author follow this blog, like me on Facebook, watch me on deviantART, and follow me on Pinterest and Twitter. Monthly Summary: November 2015

November is a busy month for me every year what with NaNoWriMo, Christmas shopping, Thanksgiving, going down to a friend's to see the Hunger Games movies, and anything other activities that come up. Though this year was a bit less crazy than last year (thanks to getting a lot of stuff done in advance), I'd still rank it in one of my busiest months of the year, but I had a lot of fun as well.

What I did:

1.) I won NaNoWriMo at 53,563 words and finished Subsapien Hybrid at 58,076! Even better I finished on the 18th of November! It's the fastest I've ever written a book before! I'm definitely going to be extending this baby, but I've got the clay to make the pot now. ^ ^ I've also read over the extended bits for Red Hood, so I've began editing. ^ ^

2.) Outside of writing I went to a DaVinci Exhibition, I traveled back to my hometown to visit a friend watch the Mockingjay Part 2, and of course I had Thanksgiving. The weather has finally gotten really cold for my area and we had our first freeze this week too!

DaVinci is one of my favorite historical figures. His genius is amazing and
how much he's impacted our modern lives just floors me. He had a fascinating with bats and that's how he design his wings.
He also painted some beautiful pieces. Lady with the Ermine is my favorite.
This is an invention he made to speed up the painting process, by having someone stand inside,
he could look through the peep hole and be able to draw them from any angle. It made painting faster for him, since painting was his day job.
I saw the Mockingjay Part 2 twice! Once on my own and once with friends!
3.) I finished reading Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and Me, Just Different by Stephanie Morrill! Reviews will be up in the near future!

I really enjoyed this book!
4.) I finished drawing Ingrid from my Subsapien series and I'm currently doing Caleb. I'm hoping to update with at least one of his pictures before the month is out!

Do you want to know more about Ingrid? Check out
her character interview and her Beautiful People!
5.) Over on Geeks Under Grace I've done a bunch of reviews this month, including Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller - Episode 4: The Cain Killer, The Peanuts Movie, The Silver Lining - Episode 1: What is Decreed Must BeThe Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part II and The Silver Lining - Episode 2: Two Households!

The Geeky Department:

1.) I went to see the Mockingjay Part 2 and I cosplayed as Katniss Everdeen! I also won first place in the costume contest at the theater and won that Peeta stand-up next to me! I loved the movie so much. It was amazing! Such a great ending to the series. ^ ^

2.) I've started watching Lost and I enjoy it so far. The mystery is intriguing and I like going into each of the characters' backstories and seeing their origins. It's definitely a trippy show though. You're unsure what's real and what's not many a time.

My favorite character is Charlie.
3.) I've been wanting to play Portal for years and recently both of the games went on sale in a bundle for only $6 and I couldn't pass that up, so when I've gotten a spare half hour I've played a little bit of it. The puzzles challenge my mind and the creepy mystery of it is very cool too. The lab element is Subsapien inspiration. ;)

The cake is a lie.
4.) For some time I've wanted to catch up Good Mythical Morning and now I'm actively doing it again. I'm almost through season two! Rhett and Link make me laugh so much.

5.) I've also been catching up on RWBY and I'm enjoying the third season so far. The animation has improved greatly and the story is taking a darker turn. Check out my post about lessons from RWBY about writing!

I love Blake.
What I Learned:

1.) Scrivener in full screen mode really helps me concentrate. I don't usually turn off my internet because I war while writing, so a great way for my to concentrate only on writing is to put Scrivener in full screen mode. It eliminates distractions and puts me in a little writing sanctum. I love that I can personalize the background too.

2.) NaNo is so much better with a buddy. Last year I plodded along barely getting by. This year I sped through NaNo like a cheetah and finished twelve days early! All of this is because of my writing buddy. She's helped me writing so much. It's just been fantastic having her.

Me and my writing buddy Cassia @ Dimensions of My Universe
3.) At the DaVinci Exhibition, I learned so much about Leonardo DaVinci. I could spend an entire post about him, but I'll tell you a few facts. Many of his gear and ball bearing systems are used today in things we use today. In this old engine, he invented all of the mechanisms, but a spark plug. He also invented the parachute and was the first recorded person to perform an autopsy. He's also credited for inventing robots and the tank!

This Assassins Creed tank is actually real.
4.) I really enjoy making playlists for my books. As soon can see in my Soundtrack Sundays posts, I listen to a lot of soundtrack music. The way I arrange playlists for my own books in iTunes is I look through albums that fit the tone of my story (For Example: For Subsapien Hybrid, I used tracks from the Maze Runner, The Host, The Hunger Games, Divergent, and others). I put them all in one playlist then as I write I arrange them in order and decide which ones I keep. I've found it an effective method.

5.) So Jamie @ Through Two Blue Eyes posted about this sound effects site for table top gaming. It's perfect for writing. It also makes an amazing combination when you put it together with music. It can be super creepy.

What I'm Going to Do:

1.) Next month I'm planning on rewriting the extended parts of Red Hood. They need some work. With doing 50K so fast, 20K should be no problemo. I'm not sure if I'll get it all done in December, but I'll get as much done as I can and finish in January. I'm hoping to get the extended parts edited and put together before I go on a trip on the second week of February so by February 10th, so my betas can read it while I'm gone then I can send it off after I get back.

2.) Christmas is coming up so I will be enjoying that and many other parties and Christmas activities. A friend of mine is coming from out of town for New Years and I'm so psyched for that! I will also be testing for my next belt too! I hope I get it. It was one of my New Years Resolutions. And lastly ... JAMES DASHNER IS COMING TO MY AREA AND I'M GOING TO SEE HIM! I'M SO EXCITED!

3.) I'm going to finish Angel Eyes by Shannon Dittemore and Peril by Suzanne Hartmann. Then next month I'm going to start A Time to Die by Nadine Brandes, the 5th Wave by Rick Yancey (I want to read it before seeing the movie), and I'm reading Curio by Evangeline Denmark for review! Christian steampunk! Yessss!

4.) I may not be able to complete my Expressions Challenge this year, but I'm going to make a valiant effort and try to finish at least one more drawing next month and the challenge can bleed into next year. I will finish it! I'm hoping to work on Caleb (if I haven't finished him yet), Ashlyn, and Rouyn next month.

Rouyn from Starbloods
5.) I also want to do even more reviews for Geeks Under Grace. I'm planning on doing more video game reviews and reviews of the Lord of the Rings and Studio Ghibli films!

5.) Sunny wrote a post about reaching out to people outside of your blog. I admit. This was tough for me at first.

And last but not least this awesome contest is going on that you can win a trip to castle to write in for NaNo! For every person I refer from this link, I get three more entries plus the person gets a chance to win as well. ^ ^

This is always a nostalgic time of year for me as I reflect on this year and past ones. It's a reverent time mixed with sadness and joy. I can't believe it's so close to the end of the year! It's been a pretty good one and I'm excited for the next one.

How was your month? What did you do? Are you looking forward to any of the upcoming posts? How was your Thanksgiving? What are you doing for Christmas? Did you win NaNoWriMo? Did you see the Mockingjay Part 2? Any mythical beasts out there?

Interview with Nox (Subsapien: Hybrid)

Nox (Subsapien) Picture this guy at 13.
Me:
Hey, everyone! Today I'm interviewing one of my POV character from Subsapien Hybrid, my NaNoWriMo novel for this year. If you'd like to learn a bit about him before reading the interview, check out his bio. Thank you, everyone who submitted questions! If you'd like to get some tips about interviewing characters, I wrote a post all about it

*turns to Nox, sitting in an interview style setting* Hello, Nox.

Nox:
*waves a little, quiet* Hey.

Me:
Ready for your first interview?

Nox:
*shrugs*

Me:
I'll take that as a yes. Here's your first ever interview question from Amy Covel: Hello Nox! First off, why do you have golden eyes--is that from your experimentation?

Nox:
I'm not sure. They've just always been that way.

Me:
*nods* And here's the next question from Sara Letourneau: How do you like your eggs prepared? (Scrambled, omelet, over easy, etc.)

Nox:
Prepared? *shifts in his chair* I just eat them whole raw. I've never even had them cooked before.

Me:
Interesting. Here is one from Amy Covel: What do you think you do well?

Nox
I can spray my venom four feet which is the farthest I know anyone can do.

Me:
That's cool. Ruth Blomgren asks: Does he remember a time before being in the L.G.R. (or his family before)?

Nox:
*shakes head* The scientists said I was aborted by my mom. That's all I know.

Me:
I'm sorry to hear that ... The next two are from Ruth Blomgren: Has he been outside?

Nox:
If you mean outside of my unit building then course, but not outside the L.G.R.

Me:
*nods* Ruth Blomgren: Is he going to escape sometime soon?

Nox:
Escape? I have no idea. I'm not even sure if I want to.

Me:
I see. Here's one from Cassia: If you could have anyone thing or person in the world that you could keep without consequence, what or who would you choose?

Nox:
*bites lip, looks down for a few seconds* Radio. She was another viper grafting older than me, but she died a few years ago. *sighs*

Me:
*pats his shoulder sympathetically* Next one is from Ruth Blomgren: What does he believe theologically (if he has such beliefs)?

Nox:
I don't know what "theologically" means.

Me:
It means like your core values.

Nox:
I've never really thought about them. I don't think I have any. I try not to hurt people, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to survive.

Me:
*nods, writes that down* Next question is from Amy Covel: What is your greatest fear?

Nox:
Dying in a really painful way. I've seen a lot of bad deaths like getting ripped apart of skewered or cut in half. I really don't want to die like that.

Me:
Very understandable. The next two are from Cassia: What is your biggest regret?

Nox:
Not being about to do anything about Radio getting killed.

Me:
*sighs* Why do I have to come up with such sad backstories? What do you think is the most beautiful thing in the world? It can be an idea, a place, a scene, anything.

Nox:
Uh ... *purses lips while he's thinking* I don't see too many beautiful things, but the sunset is pretty. I don't like the sunrise because that means bad things are happening, but I like the sunset 'cause it means I'll get to rest for a while. It comforts me a little.

Me:
Did not know that. *writes that down* Here is one from Ruth Blomgren: Does he have friends?

Nox:
No, I stopped making friends after Radio died.

Me:
Amy Covel asks: What first drew you to Izzy?

Nox:
Drew me to her? Well, Caleb begging me to take care of her while he was dragged away was what "drew me to her."

Me:
And another from Cassia: Do you actually love Izzy and want to protect her or does she feel like an obligation to you?

Nox:
What's an "obligation?"

Me:
Like you have to do it.

Nox:
Oh. Yeah. It feels like that.

Me:
Right. Next question is from Sara Letourneau: How would you describe Izzy? Do you have a close relationship with her?

Nox:
I'm not really close with her. I just keep her alive. How would I describe her ...? She's whiny, she doesn't know how to take care of herself, she's blind, and she has bat wings.

Me:
That's one way to describe her. And the last question is from Ruth Blomgren: Could you ask him what he thinks of Caleb for me? Also, his eyes are gorgeous!

Nox:
*blushes a little, clears throat* Caleb's all right I guess. He started going a little crazy after they started torturing him and all.

Me:
And that's all of the questions for today.

Nox:
That's it?

Me:
That's it.

Nox:
Oh that wasn't so bad.

Me:
Nope. Thanks everyone again for all of the questions. If you'd like to check out more about Nox's book Subsapien Hybrid, be sure to take a look at the Beautiful People #1 and Beautiful People #2 posts! Thanks for reading! Bye!

Nox:
*smiles slightly and waves*

Nox has the DNA from this guy: A Malayan Pit Viper.
What do you think of Nox? Do you have any further questions for him? Have you done character interviews before? Post a link in the comments!

It's Wonderful Word Wednesday again! Do you as a writer ever struggle finding that perfect word to describe something or you want to shake your writing up with some new words? Each Wednesday I post hand-picked descriptive words for writers and other vocabulary nerds out there. ;)

rubricate

Tea Tuesday: Peeta

I'm not really a coffee person. I prefer tea, and I know a lot of fellow writers love tea, too. But have you ever wanted to break out of the Early Grey or English Breakfast norm and try something new? Well, let me help you find some cool new teas! If you need a little hot and flavorful boost to help you reach your writing goal or you're just a lover of tea or you'd like to try some tea but aren't fond of the stereotypical types, these Tea Tuesday posts are for you.

This weeks tea is ...

*drum roll*

Peeta

How I found it: I'm back with another fandom set from Adagio Teas. Since the busy Holiday season is upon us, I bought these teas in advance. And the fact that the final Hunger Games film is releasing (released) may have something to do with it. I'm a huge Hunger Games fan and I'm so so so pumped for the film! I'm going to be cosplaying as Katniss when I see it (saw it depending on when these posts go up). I'm so happy for the Mockingjay Part 2 release but sad because the series will be finally over. :( I've been wanting to get a Hunger Games set for a while and when Adagio Teas had it for a weekend special I had to snatch it up. Let's see how good it is!

If you'd like to see what I think of the films check on reviews of the Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1 on Geeks Under Grace.

This is the same site I bought the Avengers set,Sherlock set, Tolkien set, Avatar: the Last Airbender set,  Doctor Who set, Attack on Titan set, RWBY set, Divergent set, Firefly, and Fruits Basket set from!

The Tea: After the supreme disappointment of the Katniss tea, I was very wary trying this one. To my relief, Peeta's tea is yummy and fitting! The tea tastes like baked goods! The combination of the vanilla green, almond, and chocolate chai make me think of cookies, cakes, and bread, particularly chocolate chip cookies, almond shortbread, and snickerdoodles.

Not only that but the flavors are calming and gentle yet brave and strong just like Peeta. Peeta is my ship for Katniss so I'm very happy that this tea isn't a dud for me. I will be guzzling Peeta tea for sure. I'm positive he'd drink these tea possibly while working on a painting or reading a book.

He's so adorable.
Serving Recommendations: I steeped this tea at 190 for 2 minutes and added sugar.

How much is it and where can you get it? You can find this tea at the Adagio website. I bought this tea in a sample set which was about $22 including shipping and you get a goodly amount of tea since you only need about a teaspoon per cup. Some of these teas you can buy individually for about $10 a pouch or $4 for a sample tin.

So how good is it? Four stars! It's not the most unique tea, but it is perfect for Peeta and absolutely scrumptious!

Have you tried this tea? What did you think of it? Have you seen or read The Hunger Games?

Bonus! If you are a first-time Adagio customer I can send you a $5 giftcard! Ask in the comments for details! (This is no joke and no catch I seriously can. It's part of the amazingness of Adagio Teas)
